Hi, I'm Ben. I'm a wedding, portrait, and dance photographer. I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI,
where I have practiced art in a variety of media most of my life, before studying geography
and art at Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN. I am now based in Minneapolis. I love it
here, but am available for travel and destination weddings as well.
Since 2007, I have worked with many clients on a broad variety of projects, including
weddings, portraits, and weekend dance events. I tailor each project based on your needs
and vision. As a wedding photographer, I will be there the whole day, doing everything I
can to best capture the entire story and memories of your wedding day.
I am also a dancer, very active in the swing and blues dance scenes, and believe this
experience and viewpoint enable me to capture movement and expression, and to anticipate
the perfect moment for the photo. Being a dance photographer means photographing a
wide variety of subjects, both posed and candid, under many conditions. I have worked as
the official photographer to cover a number of national and regional events, including
BluesSHOUT!, Midwest Lindy Fest, Twin Cities Balboa Festival, Heartland Swing Festival,
and Northstar Blues. During each of these weekend events I work long hours to capture the
energy and emotion of workshops, competitions, social dancing, and live bands. This requires
working under many different lighting conditions, adapting quickly to the action and changes
in location. My goal is to capture your event well enough that editing is minimal, so turnaround
time is fast. I typically edit and publish hundreds of photographs within a few days.
In my work, I enjoy capturing moments of authentic human emotion on location in natural light,
and strive to create timeless images with a clean, contemporary look.
